Nike MAG-2015: those sneakers with automatic lacing from “Back to the Future”
To beat the near future in the cinema is a thankless task. Almost 26 years have passed since the release of the second part of the cult film “Back to the Future”, and we did not wait for the promised flying machines hovering over the ground of skateboards and the holographic sequel “Jaws”. But some director’s predictions still come true. For example, Nike produce sneakers with automatic laces. Those are the ones.
In the second part of the most famous film about time travel, Marty McFly is sent in the 2015th year. More precisely, exactly on October 21, 2015. According to the forecasts of director Robert Zemeckis, nowadays dogs are being walked by droids, people can safely “take off” their old skin and look younger thanks to safe procedures, and at home even poor citizens are stuffed with fantastic electronics. And even clothes and shoes survived the technorevolution. Just like Nike sneakers, which hit the hero with the ability to adjust to the size of the wearer’s foot and automatic laces.
Those very “nikes” from the future.
For several generations of fans threw Nike with letters asking them to release “those same” sneakers. And in 2011, their voices were heard: the corporation introduced the limited edition Nike MAG model – an exact copy of the legendary couple Marty McFly. The same futuristic backlight sole, the same glowing blue Nike logo. Some of the sales money was given to the Michael Jay Fox Foundation (actor who plays the role of Marty McFly) to fight Parkinson’s disease. But designers missed one important detail. Laces at Nike MAG-2011 were quite a normal.
Already in 2011, in parallel with the release of Nike MAG, the company announced that it was preparing to release a new version – Nike MAG-2. And it will be sneakers with automatic lacing. Entry to the market is planned for the 2015th year. Accurate to the arrival of Marty in the future.
Since January 2015, Nike representatives have evasively answered questions from journalists about the exact release date. But yesterday’s post on Nike’s official Twitter gave hope to those who were waiting.
Perhaps already 10/21/2015 someone feels like McFly and trying on the first sneakers with automatic lacing. And Nike is famous for its love of future technologies. It was they who created the world’s first holographic advertising and laser football pitch.
